Performing Arts Program:

Using theater, spoken word poetry, movement, singing, and rap, I lead students through physical and vocal warm ups, theater games and fun writing exercises to release their creativity. Together we will write a play addressing important issues affecting urban youth.

For the after-school program, for 11 weeks we will have classes for 1 ½ hours twice a week, take 2 field trips to observe performances in the community, in the middle of the program they will perform one short performance, perhaps at a health medical center or senior residence home and end the program with their final culminating performance at the school.

Jewelry Making Program:

We start with glass and semi-precious beads, copper, brass and silver wire and work up to making the final pieces from copper, brass and silver precious metal clay.

For the after-school program, for 10 weeks we will have classes for 1 ½ hours twice a week, take 2 field trips to observe jewelry exhibits in the community, in the middle of the program they will have a short exhibit that may include their jewelry being in a fashion show and end the program with their final culminating exhibit and reception at the school.

Multi-media Visual Art and Mural Painting Program:

We will create a medium size multi-media mural on canvas or plywood using acrylic paint, paper, fabric, glass mosaics and collage other recycled materials. We will start with individual paintings for students to learn working with the various materials.

For the after-school program, for 11 weeks we will have classes for 1 ½ hours twice a week, take 2 field trips to observe visual art exhibits and murals in the community and they will have a short exhibit showing their individual paintings in the middle of the program. The final mural can be installed at the school or donated and installed at a local community health center. We will end the program with their final culminating exhibit reception at the school or selected organization.

Class Sizes:

The maximum class size is 15 students if I’m teaching solo, 20 students if I’m assisted by another teacher and/or 1 volunteer.

All these programs can be customized for In-School Residencies for 1 hour classes and can be 1 day a week as well.
